Hull City vs Burnley Match Preview
Hull City, in 18th place and struggling to escape the clutches of relegation, face off this weekend against fellow strugglers, 19th place Burnley.New Hull manager Iain Dowie has had mixed results since taking over.
A fine 2-0 win at home over Fulham two weeks ago was followed by a disappointing performance away to Stoke that ended in a 2-0 loss for the Tigers.
A rash of injuries will inform Dowie’s squad selection this weekend again. Ashbee, Hunt, Boateng, Cooper, Zaki, Gardner and Zayatte are all in various stages of recuperation from injury.
Dowie, however, doesn’t have the luxury of time to wait for his men to heal.
Low though Hull may be in the Premier League pecking order, Burnley is lower yet, and will likely come prepared to put up a feisty scrap for the points this weekend.
The Clarets are coming off a bruising 1-6 defeat to Manchester City last weekend.
Yet Burnley took home the spoils last time they met Hull. It was a 2-0 victory for the Clarets at home in October, and they\'ll be hopeful of repeating. They’ve won only one league game since, however. That was a 2-1 victory over West Ham, also at home. A win away at Hull this weekend would therefore be a first for the Clarets in the league this season.
With five games left this match is crucial for the Burnley. A win will draw them even with Hull on 27 points and will contribute immensely to their efforts to stave off relegation. A loss, however, albeit no guarantee of relegation quite yet, probably seals Burnley’s doom.
